Tippy Cow Layers It for Halloween
By Chilled Magazine
The Pousse-Café started it all.
Literally translated as “coffee chaser” or “push coffee,” Pousse-Café is a multi-layered drink composed generally of liqueurs/digestifs. The effect is often a rainbow of colored layers whose combinations make for a varied number of permutations. The secret to layering a drink or a shot is to stack different spirits with varying densities on top of each other, thus creating colorful and visually stunning presentations. Not only fun to make, they are fun and tasty to drink.
Here are two quick tips to remember when layering cocktails. First, pour liquor in order from heaviest to lightest (Gaz Regan’s “Joy of Mixology” has a great reference chart for this); and second, use a spoon turned upside down with upper layer ingredients that need to be poured very slowly.
Below we have featured some fun Halloween shots from Tippy Cow. Their layering trick?
Pour the first flavor into a shot glass and then shake the second flavor vigorously for 10 seconds with ice and pour it over a spoon into the glass. Presto! Halloween tipples.
