Boston Shaker

(BOS-tuhn SHAY-kur)

A Boston shaker is a two-piece cocktail shaker used in bartending to mix and shake cocktails. It consists of two main parts:

Metal Tin: This is a large metal container, often made of stainless steel, which serves as the main body of the shaker. It has a wide opening to accommodate ice, liquids, and other ingredients.

Glass or Mixing Tin: The second part is either a tempered glass or a smaller metal tin that fits snugly into the opening of the larger metal tin. The purpose of the glass or mixing tin is to contain the ingredients during shaking and to provide a clear view of the cocktail being mixed.

To use a Boston shaker, the bartender adds the ingredients to be mixed into the glass or mixing tin, places the metal tin over it, and gives it a firm tap to create a tight seal. The cocktail is then shaken vigorously to chill and mix the ingredients. After shaking, the two parts are separated by tapping the side of the shaker, and the contents are usually strained into a glass.
