5 Essential Cocktails for October

By Sophia DeVito

Each month, Chilled is bringing you five essential cocktails based on our National Drink Day Calendar. Don’t forget to reference it so you can prepare for the upcoming holidays.

The smell of pumpkin spice is in the air, and you know what that means—it’s October. Fall has begun, so now it’s officially time to transition your summer drinks to season-appropriate cocktails. From apple to pumpkin to ginger, the flavors of fall make for a great cocktail.

Here are five cocktails you should try this October.

Let’s start out strong on October 1 with National Coffee Day. Every menu has an espresso martini, so instead, switch things up and opt for this coffee-flavored drink. With addition of a cold brew cordial mixed with the foamy egg white froth, this will become a brunch-staple.

National Liqueur Day falls on October 16. While a liqueur is often the sidekick in cocktail making, with this drink, it’s the main show. The combination of orange and coriander makes for a delicious fall sipper.

Cocchi Paloma

National Pasta Day (10/17) calls for a celebration. Pasta pairs great with a glass of wine. Instead of just offering a bottle, try out this wine-based cocktail. It has just the right amount of sweet to tart flavoring. Suggesting wine cocktails can be tricky, so you’ll want to do your research.

Apple Cider Bellini

It wouldn’t be the fall without something apple flavored. If you’re hosting a brunch, this twist on a bellini is easy to make, requires few ingredients, and will impress any guest. The fig-infused vodka takes this cocktail to the next level and makes it stand out against the classic. Celebrate National Apple Day (10/21) with this tasty drink.

Pumpkin Spice Sour

It’s spooky season! If you’re hosting any Halloween-themed parties or brunches, this pumpkin spice sour needs to be on the menu. The bourbon and lemon balance out the sweetness comes from the homemade pumpkin spice syrup, so even the dark-spirit drinkers will enjoy this one. Happy Halloween! (10/31)
