The World’s Only Complete Collection Direct from the Distillery of The Macallan in Lalique Six Pillars to be Auctioned on Sunday, April 2nd, 2017.
Following over a decade of collaboration, The Macallan and Lalique are set to come together once again as a grand finale for the prestigious The Macallan in Lalique Six Pillars collection with an auction for charity at Sotheby’s “Finest & Rarest Wines and The Macallan” in Hong Kong.
On Sunday, April 2nd, 2017, the six stunning crystal decanters containing the rarest of The Macallan’s single malts aged from 50 to 65 years old, will be offered for sale at Sotheby’s Hong Kong as the world’s only complete collection, official and direct from The Macallan.
Adding to the highly collectable and distinctive collection, this special Legacy Collection is housed in a unique, bespoke cabinet in natural ebony created by Lalique, which will also hold six Macallan Fine and Rare Collection 50ml miniatures; two from each of the 1937, 1938 and 1939 vintages (signifying the zenith of Lalique’s contribution in the French Art Deco period). This cabinet will feature six pairs of Lalique Macallan glasses, each serial numbered to commemorate this unique partnership. To complete the collection, autographs of the masters behind the collection will be included inside the cabinet, and will allow for the buyer to have their own name engraved within it.
The Macallan has a long standing relationship with Sotheby’s having previously worked together on both its world record auctions including The Macallan Lalique 64 Year Cire Perdue Decanter in November 2010, selling at auction in New York for $460,000 and the Imperial M Decanter in January 2014, selling at auction in Hong Kong for $628,000. This combined with their expertise and experience, made them the perfect partner for this auction. All net proceeds will be donated to Hong Kong based and other Asian charities.
Reflecting on the hugely successful partnership with Lalique, Ken Grier, Creative Director for The Macallan, commented, “This stunning collection of decanters is the result of two kindred spirits, rooted in a shared passion for craftsmanship, detail and mastery.
“With the collection now complete, it is time to reflect not only on the exquisite whiskies that have been brought to the fore by The Macallan’s Whisky Maker but also on the extraordinary skills of the Lalique craftsmen carrying on the legacy of René Lalique. It is the strong sense of heritage and the absolute highest quality which unite The Macallan and Lalique in the creation of this ultimate collection.”
“We are proud to have been part of this stirring journey celebrating the Six Pillars of The Macallan. The marriage of the finest and rarest Macallan single malt whiskies with our beautiful bespoke hand crafted crystal decanters has been a wonder to behold. We feel this is a fitting conclusion to this inspiring collection.”
– Silvio Denz, Chairman and CEO of Lalique
