For Houston bartender and creative Bevin Biggers, those moments are more than social tradition; they’re part of a deeper exploration of desire, autonomy, and self-discovery. That perspective comes to life in Aphro, her new editorial cocktail book blending original recipes, photography, and cultural reflection.

Rooted in the sexual response cycle—desire, arousal, orgasm, and resolution—Aphro is both playful and intentional. The concept began over a decade ago as an idea for an aphrodisiac-focused bar, but when funding delayed that vision, Biggers turned it into a book, supported by a Houston Arts Alliance grant. Created in collaboration with photographer Rosebeth, the project took seven months to complete.

Each chapter features cocktails designed to reflect emotional and sensory shifts, with recipes that push beyond the expected. Biggers approaches cocktails like a chef, emphasizing texture, technique, and creativity through unexpected ingredients and methods. The result is a thoughtful, boundary-pushing collection that invites readers to experience cocktails—and themselves—with curiosity, intention, and a sense of discovery.
