Behind the Cocktail: As You Wish, The Princess Bride-Inspired Cocktail

By Isabella Cruz

The iconic film, The Princess Bride, turns 35 this year…Inconceivable!

Head Bartender Alex Barbatsis of The Whistler has created a cocktail inspired by the 1987 cult classic. “I set out to make a drinking experience with enough whimsy to rival that of the movie, while still having a distinct character arc as you sip. The violet liqueur gives a big aromatic bouquet on top and then mixes into the cocktail as you drink it, changing the color and the flavor from grassy and tropical to floral and bright,” says Alex. Check out the recipe below!

W-AS YOU WISH

As You Wish

  • 1 1/2 oz Mezcal
  • 1/2 oz Sotol
  • 1/2 oz Benedictine Honey Liqueur
  • 3/4 oz Lemon
  • 1/2 oz Orgeat
  • .3 oz Creme de Violette

Preparation: Add all ingredients besides creme de violette to Collins glass and fill with crushed ice. Swizzle until well combined and float the creme de violette on top.

“Her heart was a secret garden, and the walls were very high,” William Goldman (A quote from the novel on which the movie is based).
