Cocktail Icon of 1970s Fern Bars Immortalized in New Mini Biopic.
BOLS to the Wall: The Chronicles of Harvey Wallbanger, from Galliano L’Autentico, is now playing exclusively on YouTube. The mini biopic shines a spotlight on National Harvey Wallbanger Day, which is celebrated every year on November 8th.
The film stars Harvey Wallbanger and captures the rise, fall, and resurrection of one of pop and drink culture’s best-known tipplers.
The Story of Harvey Wallbanger
Harvey’s namesake cocktail of vodka, Galliano and orange juice was a popular drink in so-called “fern bars” throughout the 1970s. Legend has it that the cocktail was named after a Manhattan Beach, CA surf star who had a few too many after losing a surfing competition. His inability to leave the bar without crashing into walls earned him a reputation and the nickname that inspired the drink.
Today, bartenders from coast to coast are rediscovering and reinventing this simple, delicious cocktail.
In celebration of the release of “The Chronicles of Harvey Wallbanger”, Galliano, together with bartenders from around the US, has planned events in a variety of cities throughout National Harvey Wallbanger Day weekend (Nov 7th and 8th).

The Original Harvey Wallbanger:
Ingredients:
- 1 1/4 oz. Vodka
- 1/2 oz. Galliano
- 4 oz. Orange Juice
Glass: Long Drink
Preparation: Build ingredients in a glass filled with ice cubes and stir. Garnish with orange slice.
