By Chilled Magazine

Perfect for holiday gift giving, the set includes whiskeys distilled from Samuel Adams beers.

This November, Boston Harbor Distillery will release its limited edition “Spirit of Boston” package, a three-bottle gift set that will include multi-layered whiskey varieties distilled from three distinct Samuel Adams beers – New World Tripel, Thirteenth Hour, and Merry Maker Gingerbread Stout. This unique limited-edition collection highlights the treasured connection between Rhonda Kallman, founder of Boston Harbor Distillery, and Jim Koch, brewer and founder of Samuel Adams, who spent 15 years together building one of the most successful craft breweries in the U.S. The “Spirit of Boston” three-pack set will be released as three 375ml bottles packaged together for easy, holiday gift giving for $150.

“The opportunity to collaborate with our friends at Samuel Adams is very meaningful to me as we’re creating, what I like to think of as, a true Bostonian handshake. Jim has always stretched the imagination of what beer can be – this collaboration now highlights the possibilities of what a spirit derived from beer can be. Each variety of whiskey is truly incomparable in flavor and complexity to any other whiskey today.”
– Boston Harbor Distillery CEO Rhonda Kallman

‘Spirit of Boston’ Three-Pack

“To me, this collaboration captures a blending of innovation and tradition that has been part of the spirit of Samuel Adams since day one. In the whiskey world, these three spirits are groundbreaking because they each use a non-traditional and complex base: Samuel Adams New World Tripel and Thirteenth Hour from our Barrel Room Collection, and Merry Maker Gingerbread Stout. While these Sam Adams beers are transformed during the distillation process, the distinct flavors of each shine through to create an unconventional and complex series of spirits.”
– Jim Koch, brewer and founder of Samuel Adams

Spirit of Boston Whiskey flavor profiles

  • Whiskey distilled with Samuel Adams New World Tripel has a herbal hop character, and subtle tropical fruit and spice notes imparted by the Belgian style beer base
  • Whiskey distilled with Samuel Adams Thirteenth Hour Stout is a rich, bold whiskey with notes of roasted coffee and a lingering espresso-like finish
  • Whiskey distilled with Samuel Adams Merry Maker Gingerbread Stout is a spice-heavy spirit with hints of traditional gingerbread spices like cinnamon, clove, nutmeg and ginger imparted by the stout for a warming, holiday spirit

Boston Harbor Distillery’s master distiller, John Couchot, has been making whiskey from beer for over a decade. John exclaims, “I consider this amongst the best whiskey I’ve ever made and is truly unique given the beers we used,” a testament to the proprietary way he makes the cuts to get the best of what the beer offers. Once distilled, the spirit is laid to rest in used bourbon barrels where the unique flavors and nuances of the beers meld together for a delicious whiskey that promises to delight any beer or whiskey enthusiast.

The “Spirit of Boston” limited-edition gift set will be available for purchase at Boston Harbor Distillery as well as select liquor stores throughout Massachusetts and Rhode Island beginning in mid-November.

About the Boston Beer Company
The Boston Beer Company began in 1984 with a generations-old family recipe that Founder and Brewer Jim Koch uncovered in his father’s attic. Inspired and unafraid to challenge conventional thinking about beer, Jim brought the recipe to life in his kitchen. Pleased with the results of his work, Jim decided to sample his beer with bars in Boston in the hopes that drinkers would appreciate the complex, full-flavored beer he brewed fresh in America. That beer was aptly named Samuel Adams Boston Lager, in recognition of one of our nation’s great founding fathers, a man of independent mind and spirit. Little did Jim know at the time, Samuel Adams Boston Lager would soon become a catalyst of the American craft beer revolution. Today, The Boston Beer Company brews more than 60 styles of beer and as an independent company, brewing quality beer remains its primary focus. Although Samuel Adams beer is America’s leading craft beer, it accounts for only one percent of the U.S. beer market. For more information, please visit SamuelAdams.com.
