Vina Croatia will showcase Croatia’s leading wineries in
New York this February Featuring Tasting Seminar and a Walk-Around Tasting at the Astor Center

For the second year in a row, Vina Croatia, co-hosted with the Association of Winemakers at the Croatian Chamber of Economy and the Ministry of Agriculture, will present members of the wine trade and press with the opportunity to taste over 100 Croatian wines, some of which have never been seen in the US before. From obscure, native grapes such as Plavac Mali, Pošip and Malvasia to international varieties including Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, a new generation of Croatian winemakers – with an eye towards tradition and a taste for modern appeal – are creating wines of great quality with a unique character and terroir.

With wine production dating back over 2,500 years, Croatia is one of the oldest wine producing regions in the world, and today boasts 66 designated appellations. A unique mixture of Eastern and Western European cultures, at the core of Croatia is a resilient winemaking culture that takes advantage of Croatia’s diverse microclimates and geography to produce exciting wines from almost 60 grape varieties. While Croatia has long been appreciated for its stunningly beautiful landscapes, in the past decade its wines have undergone a revolution in quality and are rapidly gaining increased international recognition and awards.

The event will be held at Astor Center in New York City beginning with a masterclass seminar at 11AM, followed by a walk-around tasting from 12PM – 5PM. The Vina Croatia second annual tasting will showcase wines from 30 of the country’s leading producers, representing the key wine growing regions of Istria and Kvarner, Dalmatia, Slavonia and the Croatian Danube, and the Croatian Uplands. The masterclass seminar will be hosted by Croatian wine expert Cliff Rames and presented by renowned American wine writers Mike DeSimone and Jeff Jenssen, known as “The World Wine Guys”.

All the wines at the tasting have been pre-selected by the Croatian wine writer and expert Saša Špiranec to represent the best examples of Croatian wine production. There will be a number of wineries attending looking to export to the US for the first time.

Participating wineries include: Badel 1862, Baković, Belje, Bibich, Bodren, Bolfan, Boškinac, Damjanić, Franc Arman, Gospoja, Grgić, Iločki Podrumi, Ivan Katunar, Korta Katarina, Kozlović, Krauthaker, Kutjevo, Matošević, Meneghetti, Mokalo, Nada, Pelješki Vinogradar, Roxanich, Šipun, Škegro, St Hills, Trapan, Vinoplod and Zlatan Otok
