New Seasonal Release Combines Two of Ireland’s Oldest Crafts.
Tullamore D.E.W. has announced the U.S. release of its latest variant, Tullamore D.E.W. Cider Cask. Available in the U.S. market as a seasonal fall release, Cider Cask is the first whiskey to be finished in hard apple cider casks.
Previously only available in Ireland and in Global Travel Retail outlets, this unique release combines two of Ireland’s oldest crafts, cider-making and whiskey-making, which both have centuries of tradition rooted in the country. To produce Cider Cask, Tullamore D.E.W. small-batch ferments fresh-pressed Irish apple juice into cider in oak casks, before refilling the casks with its signature Irish whiskey.
“As the cider ferments, the tart yet sweet notes infuse the bourbon casks, creating a layered complexity of nose and taste in the finished whiskey. After approximately three months of finishing in cask, we’re left with a whiskey that is the essence of Ireland, offering notes of toasted oak tinged with a cider sweetness.”
– John Quinn, Global Ambassador for Tullamore D.E.W.
Bursting with a light, golden amber glow, Tullamore D.E.W. Cider Cask (40% ABV) tastes as rich as it looks. On the nose, Cider Cask shows fresh leafiness with a hint of crisp green apple and sweet malt. The smooth taste of this light-bodied whiskey is distinctive: soft and mellow, with a lovely balance of oak, creamy malt and subtle fruitiness.
“Ireland is steeped in tradition with apple orchards, cideries and of course whiskey distilleries. It was only a matter of time before whiskey making and cider combined, and I’m proud to say that Tullamore D.E.W. is the first in the world to do this. We’re thrilled to have Tullamore D.E.W. Cider Cask arrive on U.S. shores, and I look forward to introducing everyone to this unique whiskey.”
– Tim Herlihy, U.S. Ambassador for Tullamore D.E.W.
Tullamore D.E.W. Cider Cask is a permanent seasonal addition to the Tullamore D.E.W. range with 1,000 9-liter cases now available in the U.S. (RSP $39.99 / 1L). Due to the seasonal nature of the Irish apple harvest, Tullamore D.E.W. Cider Cask has limited production, made only between September and November each year. The release joins other recent range innovation, including Tullamore D.E.W. Trilogy and the Tullamore D.E.W. 14 and 18 Year Old Single Malts.
