The 7th Annual New York International Spirits Competition recently named Speyburn as their 2016 Speyside Distillery of the Year.
Held in October in New York City, close to 600 spirits from around the world competed in a blind tasting where top spirits buyers from around New York state judged the entries according to category and price. The award comes on the heels of several other recent accolades and awards.
A standout for the brand has been the introduction of the limited release Arranta Casks, available only in the United States. In 2015, Wine Enthusiast Magazine named Speyburn Arranta Casks one of the Top 100 Spirits of 2015. The marque is unique for its exclusive use of first fill American Oak ex-bourbon casks and draws its rich color and full-bodied flavor from the quality and character of the wood. The limited release single malt received 93 points designating it as an “Excellent” selection and “highly recommended” by the esteemed publication.
In 2016, Arranta Casks received three gold and silver medals combined, along with an “Outstanding” designation from top competitions including the International Spirits Challenge, the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, and the International Wine & Spirits Competition.
Over the past two years, Speyburn’s core portfolio has also been acknowledged with a myriad of top awards. In 2015, Speyburn Bradan Orach received a Double Gold Medal from the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and 96 points in 2016 from the Ultimate Spirits Challenge, along with a “Great Value” designation. The Speyburn 10 Years Old single malt received 93 points and the designation of “Excellent” in the 2015 Ultimate Spirits Challenge. In 2015/2016, the two expressions combined received another nine silver medals at competitions from around the world.
