Sailor Jerry Announces Steve Millar as New Brand Ambassador

By Chilled Magazine

Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum, created to honor the father of American old school tattooing, Norman “Sailor Jerry” Collins, owned by William Grant & Sons, Ltd., announces Steve Millar as its new Brand Ambassador joining Daniel ‘Gravy’ Thomas and Ashley Marsh.

Steve’s responsibilities include sharing the story of Norman ‘Sailor Jerry’ Collins, and the rum that bears his name though events, programs and partnerships up and down the East Coast.

Steve has experienced various positions over his seven plus year career in the food and spirits industry. Steve officially began his career in the industry with his own venture, Beer Goggles, an online marketing company for bars and beverage directors in downtown Seattle. Steve then moved to New York City and began bartending at establishments such as The Hog Pit, Billy Hurricane’s, and Thunder Jackson’s.

In addition to perfecting his craft as a mixologist, he also attended culinary school at Institute of Culinary Education school in New York and became a trained chef. Prior to venturing into the food and the cocktail industry, Steve served the U.S. Army with six-tours as an active solider. During his time in the army, he visited more than thirty countries over his six-year tour in the U.S. Army.

Similarly, Norman Collins was a Navy vet. He built his rep inking soldiers and sailors in WWII-era Honolulu where he established his legendary tattoo parlor and himself as the undisputed father of American old-school tattooing. Following his naval service, Collins made WWII-era Honolulu his home and continued honing his skills as a tattoo artist. Sailors on Shore Leave in Honolulu would wait in line for hours outside Collins’ Hotel Street tattoo shop to be inked by the master himself.

Not one to rest idly, Collins also became a licensed skipper of a large three-masted schooner, played the saxophone in his own band, and frequently hosted a radio show. These personal passions are now celebrated through Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum and shared with likeminded individuals.

“Steve’s personal experiences as an army vet, background in spirits and living life on his own terms, embody the independent spirit and unapologetic attitude of the rum’s namesake, Norman “Sailor Jerry” Collins. Steve is a great addition to our team of storytellers.”
– Josh Hayes, Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum Senior Brand Manager
