With the start of tomato season, Otto’s Cocktail, from Double Take Los Angeles, is the perfect cocktail to mix.
It’s made with muddled baby tomatoes, cilantro, agave, lime, Del Maguey Via, Espolon Blanco & a cilantro-tomato garnish. It’s like a spicy, smoky Bloody Maria made with salsa. Lead Bartender Sarah Mengoni goes to the local farmers market each week to source seasonal produce to create cocktails such as this one.
Double Take’s entire menu is inspired by cult classic movies shot in Los Angeles. For this one, Otto is the main character in “Repo Man.”

- 1 1/2 oz. El Jimador Blanco
- 1/2 oz. Mezcal Chipotle Tincture*
- 2 Muddled Baby Tomatoes
- 1 Sprig Cilantro
- 3/4 oz. Agave
- 1/2 oz. Lime Juice
*Mezcal Chipotle Tincture
Combine 4 to 5 dried whole chipotles with 16 oz./12 gr. mezcal and let steep for 6 hours, then strain peppers from liquid.
Preparation: Combine all ingredients, shake and strain, then serve on the rocks over ice. Garnish with cilantro and two baby tomatoes.
