Terlato Wines brings you Loveblock Pinot Noir 2012 from New Zealand.

“Loveblock is a true love story. It is one of depth and dedication.”
– Loveblock founder Erica Crawford

With her husband, Kim, she stood on the hills overlooking the Awatere Valley and fell in love with the view. In the course of time and with much toil and sweat, the wild land that stole their hearts became the Loveblock Farm, where Loveblock Sauvignon Blanc and Loveblock Pinot Gris are grown in accordance with Organic Certification standards and Sustainable Winegrowing NZ principles.

“We have created a self-sustaining estate with meticulous soil and plant management, as well as low intervention farming practices, leading to the production of grapes like no other.”
– Loveblock founder Erica Crawford

For Pinot Noir, a second Loveblock property was purchased, a 20-acre patch of paddock on the Bendigo Loop Road way down south in Central Otago. “Our vineyards, one at the north end of New Zealand’s South Island, the other at the south end, might be hundreds of miles apart, but love surely connects them” remarked Kim.

The Central Otago vineyard is named Someone’s Darling. (The “Someone’s Darling” block was named after a legend that in the mid-1800s, the farmer who owned the land found the body of a young man on the property. The farmer buried him and for the lack of name, identity and kin, he simply engraved on the course wooden cross “Someone’s Darling.”) It is extreme grape growing, undertaken farther south than virtually anywhere in the world. “Five different clones contribute to a spectrum of perfume and flavor, giving the vibrant, fruit driven profile we seek,” Erica says.

“The land gives us naturally robust wines, so we pay extra attention to make sure the wine is not over extracted or over oaked.”

“The land has its own rhythm and we respect that. We don’t try to change that rhythm. We submit to that and the deep, intimate relationship it demands from those who work the land. We are the custodians of the land, and our reward is the elegant, yet complex wines that show ‘true and naked terroir,’ which sounds like a Valentine’s Day come-on but it is really the goal of every Loveblock wine, on every occasion.”
– Loveblock founder Kim Crawford

Nestled above the snow capped mountains of Central Otago on the Bendigo Loop Road is the small Pinot Noir Vineyard “Someone’s Darling.” The climate and unique terroir combined make this region one of the best for producing premium Pinot Noir. Loveblock is charged with creating the best wine to express this extraordinary place with its unique aspect.
