“The inspiration for my cocktail comes from my visits to Mexico, and all the different ways to enjoy tequila during, and after your meal. From agave ice cream topped with anejo, to coffee drinks blended perfectly with tequila. It’s a tradition I’ve carried back to the states, and enjoy sharing with my friends and family. For this cocktail, I take the rich agave flavor of El Mayor Reposado and blend it with coffee and chocolate liqueurs — resulting in a deliciously smooth after dinner cocktail.”

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 oz. el Mayor Reposado
  • 1/2 oz. St George Coffee Liqueur
  • 1/2 oz. Tempus Fugit Creme de Cacao

Preparation: Add all ingredients to a mixing glass, and stir for 10-15 seconds. Strain and serve up, or over a large ice sphere or cube. Garnish with a rose petal.

Voodoo Honey

“I wanted to make a sort of Tequila highball riff that accentuated the sweet fruit flavors and spice undertones of El Mayor Reposado. While at the local farmers market, I found honey and a jalapeno to make a syrup to marry with the sweetness of pineapple juice. With just a hint of bitterness from the Ango and pink salt, it rounds out the flavors for a well balanced patio pounder.”

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 oz. El Mayor Reposado
  • 1/2 oz. Domaine de Canton
  • 1/2 oz. Pineapple Juice
  • 1/2 oz. Honey Jalapeno syrup*
  • Collins Glass, Shaken, Strained on ice
  • Top with Club Soda
  • 3 dash Angostura Bitters
  • pinch of pink Himalayan salt on top
  • sliced jalapeno for garnish

Preparation: *syrup- bring 1 cup of water, 1 cup of honey and 1 medium sized jalapeno (sliced) to boil in a small saucepan, then remove from heat. Let sit for 20 minutes. Strain syrup and refrigerate.

The Root

By Derrick Li, Chilled 100 Member, San Francisco, CA

“El Mayor’s tradition of tequila craft starts at the roots. That’s why El Mayor is made from only the highest quality Weber Blue Agave plants; sweet succulents that thrive in the rocky highlands of Jalisco. At about 7,500 feet above sea level, its mineral-rich sandy soil produces the juiciest plants, giving you a taste as warm as Jalisco. In my cocktail, The Root, by using a finest Herbal liquor Cocalero with a touch of citrus and different Acids, especially round it up with the flavor of crisp, light body, with a hint of pepper El Mayor 100% Blue Agave Blanco tequila. The Root cocktail is the perfect way to enjoy and celebrate on a hot summer day.”
