Recipe by Isaac Vicknair
- Raspberry Puree
- Wódka Vodka
Preparation: I realize I didn’t put the exact ounces on the last form. I believe drinks like this are the perfect cocktail for people to try making on their own. You could also try making it with a half ounce of citrus… either way, these ingredients are fail proof. Start by making raspberry puree, or just crush raspberries in the bottom of a snifter. Raspberries are both sweet and tart. Take a basil leaf and put it in the palm of your hand and then smack it like you are clapping loudly for an operetta. Then add the Wodka and stir or shake. Pour into a snifter or, if you don’t have that, a wine glass. Pile on the ice. Any dry or sweet wine will do for a topping, but rose is preferred, then add any dark cherry liqueur to create the beautiful affect. Making drinks is like cooking or building or painting, or anything else… give it a go!
Garnish: Garnishes need to be beautiful and have a contrasting color. Green in this case.
Glassware: Extra Fancy. Something larger since it has a topping of wine, like a sniffer or a goblet.
It’s a long story, but I used to watch an Errol Flynn movie called Robin Hood. The villain was very classy and the actor’s name was Basil Rathbone. One day, a new bartender and I were experimenting with the Wodka, a new addition to the bar. He mentioned it would taste good with basil and the cocktail was created.
