All Natural Mixmasters with Bärenjäger Honey Liqueur

Right after the freezing weather of January and February passes, Houstonians prep for March, the month of The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Mardi Gras, St Patrick’s Day, and Spring Break. These events lead to the excitement of crawfish season. Naturally, service Industry professionals prepare the way cities prepare for the Olympics. Sadly, Covid-19 quickly halted these plans, resulting in the events being canceled. The cherished traditions shared between bartender and guest have been postponed, and we yearn for the days of getting together for a friendly boil.

Just imagine that first bite of crawfish too hot to handle, downing a cold beer and enjoying the warm sun on your favorite patio. My drink, Bärenboil, emulates this feeling with Bärenjäger Honey Liqueur which shines in this cocktail. Its poetic notes of honey and herbs are the perfect match for a thirst-quenching mix of citrus, Topo Chico, and a hint of crab boil spice.

This cocktail is spicy and refreshing, complex and low abv. It recreates that special feeling of eating crawfish with your friends and loved ones.

BÄRENBOIL

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/4 oz. Bärenjäger Honey Liqueur
  • 1 dash Zatarain’s Concentrated Shrimp & Crab Boil
  • 1 bar spoon lemon juice
  • Topo Chico Sparkling Water (to top up)
  • Lemon (for garnish)

Preparation: Pour ingredients over ice in a Collins glass and stir. Top up with sparkling water and garnish with a lemon wedge.

Born and raised outside Houston, Racheal considers herself pure Texan. Helping her mother at their family restaurant from the age of eleven, she developed a lifelong passion for hospitality.

Racheal calls the club level at NRG Stadium her bar home, slinging cocktails during the rush of NFL games, concerts, and international soccer tournaments. Although most of her experience is in volume, Ms. Buie is comfortable jumping behind any bar to mix cocktails and mingle with guests.

A mother to one, Racheal spends much of her time with her daughter Rosa, her dog Frida, and cats Diego and Nugget.
