Chillin’ With Noemi Gonzalez

By Joseph Luparello

Noemi Gonzalez is a natural born actress who showcases her talent across all types of productions including television, film, and theater.

At a young age, Noemi discovered how acting allows you to challenge internal pain. The most heightened sense of pain she endured stemmed from the tragic loss of her brother at eight years old. It was the strength she gained from that process that allowed her to focus her work on the goodness in humanity, empowerment, and connection; demonstrating how we can come together through dynamic characters and unforgettable stories.

She plans to use her public voice being an advocate for mental health, immigration rights, and Latinas in the industry. As a member of the queer community, she wants to give her time to queer-based organizations focusing on BIPOC while simultaneously using her influence to be an advocate for the LGBTQ community.

Gonzalez booked her first series regular role shortly after moving to Los Angeles, giving a standout performance as ‘Soli Gomez’ in Hulu’s “East Los High,” a series nominated for multiple Daytime Emmy Awards and Imagen Awards. Soon after, she joined “The Young and the Restless,” receiving rave reviews for her performance as ‘Mia Rosales.’ She has also appeared in Amazon’s “The Kicks,” Fox’s “Rosewood,” and Amazon’s “Dark/Web,” a phenomenal series nominated for multiple Daytime Emmys.

The upcoming star’s most recent work can be seen in the brand-new Netflix series “Selena” (currently streaming on Netflix) as ‘Suzette Quintanilla.’ The series follows late Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla and her rise to fame with Suzette by her side as a devoted sister and drummer in her band. Suzette is a stable force in Selena’s life, acting as a rock for her younger sister, and committed to her family’s well-being. Noemi even got to learn drums for the role!

On the film side, she can be seen in Paramount Pictures’ “Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones,” and most recently, David Ayer’s “The Tax Collector” (August 2020) with Lana Parrilla and Shia LaBeouf. “The Tax Collector” quickly took the #1 spot on the “Watched at Home Top 20” list upon its debut.

Chilled sat with Noemi to talk about her love of tequila, mezcal and dive bars.

Tell us about the projects you are working on.

I’m currently promoting the premiere of part two of Selena The Series on Netflix while I prepare for a movie that I’m filming in Atlanta this summer, primero Dios!

With your busy schedule, what do you like to do with your downtime?

To recharge, I make sure to relax by watching movies I grew up with, taking a bath soak with some essential oils and salts, and lastly hiking LA’s nature trails.

When you go out to eat, where do you like to dine?

Depends on the vibe I’m into or looking for… I like to go to the fine dining restaurants all over LA that I used to work at, their competitors, and hole-in-the-wall spots. My favorite restaurant to dine at is Farfalla Trattoria and my favorite hole-in-the-wall restaurant is Spicy BBQ Restaurant- you want the Northern Thai Noodles.

I have Tequila over ice with a lime or Mezcal with an orange slice. Favorites in the past were Eastside and Bijou Martini.
