A true renaissance woman, Briana Lane is able to juggle her acting work while working on an indie rock album, writing her own series, and working with different charities around LA.
Recently, she can be seen in episodes of CBS’s NCIS (airing May 1st), Hulu’s All Night (airing May 11th) and this fall in starring in the film One Nation Under God opposite Casper Van Dien and Kevin Sorbo. Her band, Winslow (@thebandwinslow), with fellow actress/musician Kate Miner (of the band Miner), release their first record this June (2018).
Lane has made a big impression with roles on the small screen in everything from NBC’s The New Normal, Freeform’s Switched at Birth, and Young & Hungry, to name a few. She wrote her own comedy pilot Bri Squared with actress Brianne Davis (History’s Six) and this year, she’s also writing, producing and starring in the series Couch People, with Sterling Sulieman (Still Star-Crossed) and Sunkrish Bala (Castle).
The Los Angeles native seemed destined for a career in entertainment. After catching the acting bug in high school, she made her way into the business as a writer fresh out of college for CBS. From there she began hosting and producing programming for CBS.com, E! News, Uproxx and MSN’s Wonderwall channel, where she was also the editor-at-large. Realizing acting was her true passion, she quickly switched gears and landed jobs in TV & film and has worked steadily ever since. She spends her weekends performing with her indie improv team, hiking the hills of LA with her adopted Pomeranian, Foxy, and browsing flea markets for great vintage finds. If there’s an art gallery opening or an indie band performing, you can find her there. She also dedicates her philanthropic efforts to working with the Arthritis Foundation and is a member of UNICEF’s Next Generation, helping to support UNICEF’s lifesaving work.
Tell us a bit about the projects you are working on.
I just booked a recurring role in a CW pilot that I’m really excited about opposite Taye Diggs. I also have episodes of CBS’s NCIS and Hulu’s All Night coming out, and the movie called One Nation Under God premiering this fall, and my band, Winslow, is about to release an album.
With your busy schedule, what do you like to do with your downtime?
I love to check out local bands play, perform with my improv group and go on hikes with my dog, Foxy.
When you go out to eat, where do you like to dine?
I love a restaurant with a creative take on food or ambiance. One of my favorite restaurants in Silverlake, “Mh Zh”, has tables on the sidewalks, a menu written on paper bags and Mediterranean food that puts any other place to shame. My other favorite spot is “Elf” in Echo Park. It’s tiny inside and the menu is plant-based and organic, so you don’t feel guilty post-meal.
What types of dishes do you usually order?
It really depends on my mood but I’ll always opt for a chicken dish or a fish dish most often. However, if I’m feeling up for it, I’ll just ask the server to surprise me.
Do you cook?
Yeah. On a regular basis, I make meals for myself but nothing too extravagant. My schedule doesn’t really allow for a lot of cooking time, so I’ll occasionally make something crazy on a random Sunday if I’m feeling like it!
What types of drinks do you order when out?
I’ll order either a full bodied red or a tequila drink. My new favorite tequila drink is a mix of agave, mezcal, bourbon and burnt orange. It doesn’t give you a hangover and it tastes delicious!
Do you prepare drinks at home?
I don’t! If I drink at home, I usually just have wine or beer.
Do you own a home bar?
I do actually. I got a vintage bar cart from a flea market years ago that looks like it’s from 1910. It’s my favorite piece of furniture that I own. That being said, I rarely use it. I have a bunch of alcohol in it for when company comes over.
What is it stocked with?
All the alcohol on the cart is packed in a vintage Pepsi wooden soda crate so I have to be picky with what I fit in there since space is limited. Right now I have vodka, tequila, whiskey, and some fancy pants McCallan. On the bottom part of the cart, I store all my wine and glassware.
What is your favorite drink/cocktail?
Classic margarita or a really good Malbec.
