Patrick Gilmore appears on the sci-fi TV show, Travelers, which recently premiered on Netflix, and his second season of You Me Her premieres on February 14th, 2017, on Audience Network (on DIRECTV and AT&T’s U-Verse) and the streaming service DIRECTV NOW.
Travelers stars Gilmore alongside Emmy Award winner Eric McCormack. The show follows a trained team of surviving humans from hundreds of years in the future who discover how to send consciousness back through time into people of the 21st century. These “travelers” assume the lives of others, while attempting to save humanity from a terrible future. Patrick is a scene-stealer as David Mailer, a funny yet sheltered social worker who cares for a traveler, a young, intellectually disabled woman named Marcy Warton (MacKenzie Porter).
Chilled met up with Patrick to have a few laughs and to chat about his tendency to kick it old school.
Tell us a bit about the projects you are working on or have coming up.
Travelers is a Netflix original series. I also got to come back and have some fun on Season 2 of You Me Her for Audience Network on DIRECTV.
With your busy schedule, what do you like to do with your down time?
I like trying to recreate my childhood. I buy old toys on EBay, daydream about Brooke Shields and watch Hal Needham movies.
When you go out to eat, where do you like to dine?
I get antsy sitting in one place for more than an hour, but I went to a restaurant last month that’s all in the dark and the waiters are blind. That was a kick.
What types of dishes do you usually order?
If there’s a peppercorn steak on the menu, I’m ordering it.
Do you cook?
My cooking skills peaked in grade school. KD [Kraft Dinner] Spirals with cut-up hot dogs! Who’s in? Anyone? Whatever, more for me.
What types of drinks do you order when out?
If I’m only having one drink: Pina Colada. If I’m on a mission: Vodka, water, slice of lime.
Do you prepare drinks at home?
Sure. Usually it’s a single malt scotch with one of those 2 1/2 inch ice cubes. The clinking of the ice and glass makes me feel grown up.
Do you own a home bar?
I have an old portable TV cabinet on wheels that I keep my booze inside. It has a shelf for LPs and a turntable on top.
If you own a home bar, what is it stocked with?
The standards: Scotch, rye, vodka, gin. There’s absinthe in there too, but I’m saving it for the apocalypse.
If you did not own a home bar, what would it be like?
I’d have a basement bar with shag carpet, like every house had in the 70s.
What is your favorite drink/cocktail?
Hands down, eggnog! Grate some fresh nutmeg on top, add an ice cube… bliss.
Have you ever been a bartender?
Yes! In fact, I bartended at a pub in London for an entire summer without realizing it was a gay bar. I just thought I was a girl repellent. I never said I was a smart person… I’m an actor.
