Midnight Moon Launches Their First Ever National Advertising Campaign Featuring an Authentic Prison Mug Shot of Creator Junior Johnson

By Chilled Magazine

Moonshine bootlegging legend and NASCAR Hall of Fame member, Junior Johnson is celebrating the explosive growth of his family’s moonshine recipe with an advertising campaign that embraces his moonshine roots and colorful past. This is the first ever national ad campaign for Midnight Moon which is now available in all fifty states and is the country’s number one selling moonshine.

Referenced in Bruce Springsteen’s song Cadillac Ranch, Junior Johnson’s life as a racecar driver and bootlegger was turned into a critically acclaimed film starring Jeff Bridges in 1973 entitled The Last American Hero. This film originated from an Esquire article published on Johnson in 1965.

Johnson was never apprehended for running ‘shine’ because authorities could never catch him due to his extraordinary driving skills that later earned him 50 NASCAR titles. It wasn’t until 1956 when Johnson fired up his family’s still that he was arrested by 18 federal agents lying in wait. Johnson served 11 months of a two‐year sentence and later received a presidential pardon from Ronald Regan. Johnson cites this pardon as the greatest moment of his life. “For our first ad, we wanted to celebrate the authenticity of Midnight Moon, showcasing its history and genuine moonshining roots,” said Joe Michalek, founder of Piedmont Distillers, makers of Johnson’s Midnight Moon. [pullquote_right]Bootlegging and prison time for Junior and his family was an inherent part of the brand’s history, which is why we chose to feature Junior’s mug shot photo from his moonshine arrest with the caption Any More Authentic and it would be Illegal.”[/pullquote_right]

The only moonshine with a ‘Presidential Pardon’ will be featured in the country’s top magazines, including Maxim, Playboy, Rolling Stone and ESPN. The campaign was launched this week and is expected to reach an audience of 40 million during the first phase of the campaign.

Midnight Moon follows Junior Johnson’s legendary family moonshine recipe and continues to be hand‐crafted in small batches distilled from American corn. According to Johnson, Midnight Moon is “smoother than vodka…better than whiskey…best shine ever.”

Midnight Moon ranges from 70‐100 proof and retails for approximately $20‐$30. Midnight Moon is available in original and fruit infusions, allowing the hand‐packed fruit to age naturally in the jar. Flavors include Apple Pie, Cherry, Strawberry, Blueberry, Blackberry and Cranberry.

“Consumer reaction to Midnight Moon’s authentic recipe and real fruit taste has been remarkable,” said Michelak. “The bottles seem to be literally flying off the shelves, which makes the timing of our first national ad campaign ideal. We look forward to an exciting year‐ahead.”
