Latest Release from Longest-Serving Malt Master David Stewart Showcases the Art of Marrying Whiskies.
Following in the footsteps of the highly successful Tun 1509 Batches 1 and 2, The Balvenie Malt Master David Stewart MBE will now present Tun 1509 Batch 3. David is one of the industry’s most experienced and admired Malt Masters, and The Balvenie Tun 1509 expertly showcases the skills he has developed during almost 54 years of service.
To create the much-anticipated Batch 3 of Tun 1509 – which will be limited to just 8,850 bottles worldwide, and only 2,100 available in the US – David drew on his extensive knowledge and expertly hand-selected 31 of the finest casks from the distillery’s precious aged stocks. He used 12 sherry butts distilled between 1989 and 1992, 11 American oak hogsheads distilled in 1989 and eight refill American Oak butts distilled in 1992 and 1993.
All were transferred to the single marrying vessel known as the “tun,” which for several months sits proudly in the distillery’s Warehouse 24 before bottling. This is a rare interpretation of the marrying process, allowing all 31 casks to come together in a unique expression of The Balvenie that is greater than the sum of its constituent parts.
“We have been overwhelmed by the positive reception and recognition that Batches 1 and 2 of Tun 1509 have received from the industry. We hope this limited release of Batch 3 will be accepted in similar fashion as it possesses those familiar Balvenie characteristics that made previous batches so popular.”
– David Stewart MBE
Each bottle of Tun 1509 Batch 3 comes with in-depth detail on the whisky with visual representations of the flavor profile of each of the 31 constituent casks and the overall character of the resulting single malt.
Higher strength at 52.2% and non-chill filtered, Batch 3 of Tun 1509 is now available in the U.S. at an MSRP of $350 per 750ml bottle.
