Provence Wine Producers to Visit New York March 5th, 2013

Media and trade professionals invited
to taste the region’s gold standard rosé wines

As imported rosé wines continue to post strong sales increases, nearly 30 wineries from Provence will visit New York on March 5 to pour their gold standard dry rosé wines for journalists and wine professionals. Provence, the oldest winegrowing area in France, is the largest wine region specializing in AOC rosé wine worldwide.

The Provence in the City 2013 tasting events will be the year’s largest presentations of the wines of Provence in the United States. Guests will sample an array of rosé wines – the elegant pink wines for which Provence is famous – along with numerous red and white wines of the region. A related event March 7 in Chicago will mark the annual tasting tour’s first time in the Windy City.

These tastings cap another dynamic year of sales for imported rosé in the U.S.:

At retail, imported rosé wines priced $12 and above have grown at double-digit rates for eight straight years, according to a Nielsen survey. Exports of rosé wine from Provence to the U.S. have grown at double-digit rates for nine consecutive years, according to the French customs agency and the Provence Wine Council.

“Our producers are excited to return to New York, as well as to meet Chicago trade and media members for the first time,” said Francois Millo, director of the Conseil Interprofessionnel des Vins de Provence (Provence Wine Council). In New York, a special selection of foods from executive chef Florian V. Hugo will be served to highlight the pairing versatility of Provence rosé. Tastings will be held at Manhattan’s Brasserie Cognac restaurant.
