This little nut packs a big nutritional punch. The hazelnut, also known as filberts, add a nutty and rich flavor to any recipe. According to the Hazelnut Council, they also provide many health benefits like flavonoids for brain health and circulation support, they are a good source of oleic acid, thought to help lower levels of bad cholesterol, and are rich in vitamins E and B, along with potassium, calcium and magnesium.
In celebration of National Hazelnut Month mixologists at various establishments in Vegas, Miami, New York, Boston and Connecticut have teamed up with Frangelico, the most well known Hazelnut Liqueur, to create one of a kind recipes. Also teamed up is Isabelle’s Curly Cakes in Boston, Todd English’s daughter’s bakery and Butter Lane in NYC. Geoffrey Zakarian’s restaurant, The National, will be serving cocktails accompanying their hazelnut food menu for the month, in celebration of this lovely little nut. You must mix this pumpkin patch martini!
- 1 1/4 oz. Frangelico Hazelnut Liqueur
- 1 1/4 oz. Flor de Caña 7 year Grand Reserve Rum
- 1/2 oz. Pumpkin Simple Syrup*
- 1/4 oz. Vanilla Vodka
- Whipped Cream and Ground Cinnamon for garnish
Place all ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice, shake vigorously and strain into a martini glass rimmed with brown rimming sugar. Top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
*Pumpkin Simple Syrup
- 1/2 Cup Pumpkin puree
- 1/2 Cup water
- 1/2 Cup Sugar
Add all ingredients to a saucepan over high heat, bring to a boil stirring to allow sugar to dissolve, remove from heat and allow to completely cool.
