With so many flavors on the market today, there is a cocktail for every occassion. Tis the season for eggnog, cranberries, candy canes, gingerbread and basically anything red or green. We here at Chilled have compiled a list of 5 great holiday-inspired cocktails for you to enjoy this season. Be merry and enjoy!
Holiday Cranberry Mojito
This is an easy recipe for all you Mojito-lovers out there with a holiday twist – Fresh cranberries. This one is light and refreshing and also a very festive choice because it incorporates red and green for the holidays. The recipe calls for you to make a simple syrup, but do not be intimidated! It’s called “simple syrup” for a reason.
- 8 oz fresh cranberries
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 10 mint leaves
- 1 Tbsp. lime juice
- 1 oz rum
- 4 oz soda water
- Simple Syrup
Preparation: Combine cranberries, sugar and water in a saucepan and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Lower the heat to medium-low and continue to cook for about 10 minutes. Remove, allow to cool and then strain. Put 10 mint leaves and 1 Tbsp. of lime juice in each glass and muddle. Fill each glass with ice and pour 1 oz of cranberry simple syrup and 1 oz rum into each. Top off with soda water and add some fresh cranberries for garnish.
Who wouldn’t want to be in Jamaica instead of dealing with the freezing, cold temperatures of winter? This drink will warm you up but also incorporates the most popular drink consumed during the holidays: Eggnog.
- 1 oz Amber Rum
- 1 oz Kahlua Coffee Liqueur
- 4 oz Eggnog
Preparation: Pour all ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice and shake well. Strain into an old fashioned glass, sprinkle with cinnamon and garnish with a cinnamon stick.
Gingerbread, another holiday staple, is delicious when made into a cocktail. If you enjoy gingerbread, this one’s for you.
- 2 oz vodka
- 1/2 oz gingerbread simple syrup (Easy now that you’re a pro!)
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/4 tsp. ground ginger
- 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. vanilla extract
Preparation: Bring all ingredients to a simmer in a medium saucepan. Let simmer about 20 minutes. Cool thoroughly, strain into a container and chill until ready to use. Combine vodka and gingerbread syrup in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well and strain into a martini glass. Garnish with crushed gingerbread cookies.
Candy Cane Cocktail
This is another simple recipe, but always a crowd-pleaser during the holidays. You can even increase the ingredients and make a punch for your holiday party.
- 1 oz Vanilla Rum
- 1 oz White Chocolate Liqueur
- 1 oz Peppermint Schnapps
Preparation: Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake well. Strain into glass and garnish with a candy cane, or rim the glass with crushed candy canes. You can even put a peppermint candy in each glass for an added garnish!
Have you had enough of everything and anything holiday? Tired of the crowds, traffic and tireless Christmas music? Have a Grinch! But sorry, you are still being festive because it’s green.
- 2 oz Midori
- 1/2 oz lemon juice
- 1 tsp. simple syrup (You can purchase this at a store, or make your own following the instructions in the above recipes. The basic principal to follow is to use 1 part sugar to 1 part water. Boil water, dissolve sugar into boiling water stirring until sugar is completely dissolved, cool. For a richer simple syrup, use more sugar).
Preparation: Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake well and strain into martini glass and garnish with a cherry.
