The FACUNDO Rum Collection, a luxury collection of sipping rums from BACARDI, and Sotheby’s Auction House hosted Sotheby’s clients and members of the 1744 Young Collector’s Club for an “Art of Rum” dinner experience.
Sourced from the Bacardi family’s private reserves, the FACUNDO Rum Collection elevates rum to an art form. To showcase the artistry, passion and dedication that went into handcrafting each variant, Sotheby’s and FACUNDO collaborated on an exquisite, immersive dining experience for select influencers bringing the “Art of Rum” concept to life.
As guests arrived at the main gallery reception space, they were greeted by stunning works of art from the “Cherchez la femme: Women & Surrealism” exhibition and offered a selection of NEO and EXIMO cocktails, along with artfully paired passed canapés.
Paying tribute to BACARDI’s Cuban heritage, Cuban contemporary artist and friend of the company Alexandre Arrechea, was invited to briefly speak to the history and culture of Cuban art. Some of Arrechea’s artwork was also displayed alongside select pieces from the upcoming Latin America Modern & Contemporary Art auction. Following Arrechea’s remarks, guests were invited to further explore the “Cherchez la femme: Women and Surrealism” exhibition before taking their seats at the dining tables, where Julian Dawes, Vice President of Sotheby’s Impressionist & Modern Art Department, gave an introduction to BACARDÍ Brand Master, David Cid.
Throughout the dinner, Cid told the rich history of the Bacardi family and their dedication to the art of rum-making as well as an overview of the FACUNDO Rum Collection before guiding guests through each of the four variants. Cid offered guests a sample tasting of NEO and EXIMO prior to their first course followed by a NEO White Negroni cocktail. Just before serving the third course, Cid offered guests a tasting and overview of EXQUISITO and PARAISO, trailed by an EXIMO Old Fashioned cocktail.
Each of the expressions were paired with hand-selected dishes including a fennel salad with roasted beets, candied pistachios and a pear vinaigrette, seed crusted smoked arctic char with an apple and endive slaw, grilled aged filet mignon with rosemary turned potatoes and haricot verts and a bittersweet chocolate hazelnut torte to finish.
At the end of the evening, as guests began to depart, they were offered gift bags containing a small bottle of EXQUISITO, an informational booklet about the FACUNDO Rum Collection and also on BACARDÍ architecture, which contains some of Arrechea’s work within the book.

Art of Rum
- 1 1/2 oz. FACUNDO NEO
- 1/2 oz. Combier Liqueur
- 3/4 oz. Lemon Peel Simple Syrup
- 1 oz. Passion Fruit Purée.
Preparation: Shake all ingredients vigorously with plenty ice, strain into a coupe glass. Garnish with a passion fruit foam and grated coffee beans.
