Kentucky Derby Cocktail – The Mumm Julep

In celebration of the “Greatest Two Minutes in Sports” taking place on Saturday May 7th, 2016, mix up this unique and refreshing drink recipe from G.H. Mumm, the official champagne of the 142nd Annual Kentucky Derby.
This take of the classic mint julep combines an assortment of base spirits, as well as champagne, to create a revitalized version of this conventional southern cocktail. The sugar cube adds a fun nod to the derby horses.
The Mumm Julep
Ingredients:
- 3 oz. of G.H. Mumm Champagne
- 1/2 oz. of Martell Cognac
- One Sugar Cube
- 6-7 Mint Leaves
Garnish: Mint Bouquet and Strawberry
Glassware: Julep Cup or Rocks Glass
Preparation: In a julep tin or rocks glass, add mint leaves and sugar cube and a splash of water. Gently press mint leaves with a muddler to release oils. Add Cognac, Champagne, crushed ice and stir gently. Top with more crushed ice to mound. Garnish with a mint bouquet and strawberry.
