HopPlotter, the ‘Yelp’ for Beer Lovers
By Chilled Magazine
What do you get when you combine the best of Google Maps, Yelp and beer? You get
Founded by Alex Cartmell, a former software developer at Expedia, Ann Layman, a former travel agent and and Lauren Cartmell, a graphic designer, HopPlotter aims to take the guess work out of finding the best beer in your area.
“Over the last few years, so many great breweries have opened in Seattle and all over the country. As craft beer fans ourselves, we wanted a way to effortlessly see and locate what breweries exist and what each one had to offer, but nothing like that existed. The three of us also travel quite a bit and wanted a tool to use for when we visit new destinations and want to discover the beer scene.”
– Ann Layman, HopPlotter’s product/program manager, marketing lead and research lead
Here’s how HopPlotter works:
From Seattle to New York to even South America, HopPlotter’s database includes thousands of breweries around the world.
The main interface of the website and app is a map, with markers indicating where breweries are located and the colors signaling if they are currently open or not.
Clicking on a brewery will lead the user to even more information such as the brewery’s top-rated beers, Yelp rating, Facebook posts, Tweets, whether they serve food, whether they offer brewery tours, etc. The site also gives you the ability to plan trips and visits to breweries by letting users create and save itineraries to their own account. Itineraries can be anything from just a day to a long detailed trip. Not seeing your favorite pub on HopPlotter? Add it by clicking “Add a Brewery” on the webapp.
Visit HopPlotter.com, type in your address and start finding the breweries closest to you. You can also download the app on your iPhone.
