Chillin’ with Chelsea Shag

By Chilled Magazine

Soulful musician Chelsea Shag talks to Chilled about her artistry and inspirations for her new single, “One Kiss,” off her upcoming full-length album.

Her music is currently available on iTunes, Amazon, and Spotify, along with a music video premiering this month.

“One Kiss” showcases a meaningful connection that exposes a powerful message amongst the current political climate and issues of equality. Chelsea describes the concept behind the video as “showing that love comes in all shapes and sizes, whether you are a woman who loves a man, a man who loves a man, or woman who loves a woman, it is all beautiful and should be accepted and celebrated.” Shot in Atlanta, Georgia, Chelsea was involved in every aspect of the video, from the original concept, to editing. The video stems from the meaning of the song, which Chelsea describes as, “talking about the very first time you connect with someone, that first kiss where you can find out if the feelings are real … discovering if it is something that can go somewhere.”

Chilled also chatted with Chelsea about her love of games, tequila, and Mexican food.

Tell us a bit about the projects you are working on.

So excited for what’s to come out! It’s refreshing and funky and full of love … I’m so ready to release new music. I feel like people have only gotten a little taste of who I am, but there’s so much more to be known. I can’t wait to share my life through music with you all.

With your busy schedule, what do you like to do with your down time?

I love to play games, whether it be Connect Four or basketball … competition has always been fun to me. I also just like to relax, maybe paint a picture, walk through nature, connect with kind and fascinating people, and take care of myself.

When you go out to eat, where do you like to dine?

I’m a Mexican food fanatic. The south knows how to cook it right. I also enjoy European cafes.

What types of dishes do you usually order?

I’m pretty simple when it comes to this … once I find one thing I like, I stick to it. At a Mexican restaurant, I’m a hard shell bean taco, side or rice, and guac kind of lady. Take me to Apres Diem in midtown Atlanta, I will always order the vegetable rigatoni soaked in white wine garlic cream sauce … I’m hungry all of a sudden!

Do you cook?

All the time. I love to cook.

What types of drinks do you order when out?

Depends on my mood, but I’m usually ordering a tequila shot(s).

Do you prepare drinks at home?

I do. I like to experiment at home with liquor, sparkling waters, and herbs I grow at home (spearmint, basil).

Do you own a home bar?

Does having a few liquor bottles on top of my fridge count as a bar? If so, yes.

What is it stocked with?

Tequila, whiskey, vodka, ginger beer, pineapple juice (all the juices), pickles!

What would your dream bar be like?

The ambience is everything. It would have beautiful, warm lighting, board games, music of course, and some swag chairs. There’s a bar in Montreal called Candi Bar that I would love to replicate. It has a Lego bar, hot pink and blue lighting. Now that is a sexy bar.

What is your favorite drink/cocktail?

Right now my favorite drink is straight-up tequila, or a glass of champagne.

Have you ever been a bartender?

Never have I ever, but it seems everyone I know has been.
