BACARDI Cuba Libre

The Cuba Libre was created in 1900, amid a celebration of the Cubans’ courageously gained independence. In a toast to their freedom, the cocktail gained its name – ¡Cuba Libre! It is traditionally made with BACARDÍ Gold Rum, cola and a squeeze of fresh lime, but tastes equally great with BACARDÍ Superior Rum.

Ingredients:

  • 1 part BACARDÍ Gold Rum
  • 3 parts cola
  • 2 lime wedges

Preparation: Squeeze and drop lime wedge over ice. Pour in BACARDÍ Rum and cola. Garnish with lime wedge.

BACARDI Mojito

Believe it or not, 16th century hipsters drank cocktails too. It may not have looked like a cocktail, but the forerunner to the Mojito was invented way back in 1586. Called ‘The Draque’, it was named after an English Privateer known as Drake, and made with rough-as-old-boots Aguardiente, the only rum they could get their hands on at the time. Fortunately, by the late 1800s, thanks to Don Facundo Bacardi Masso, the founder of BACARDI®, rum had found its mojo. ‘The Draque’ turned into the far more enchanting Mojito, which means “little spell” in Creole.

Ingredients:

  • 2 parts BACARDI Superior Rum
  • 12 fresh mint leaves
  • 1/2 lime in wedges
  • 2 tablespoons simple syrup or sugar
  • Club Soda
  • Crushed Ice
  • Sprig of fresh mint to garnish

BACARDI Hand Shaken Daiquiri

The year is 1898. Jennings Stockton Cox, an engineer at the Daiquirí copper-ore mines on the outskirts of Santiago de Cuba, returns home after a hard day’s work. Thanks to his boss, Mr Cox is well stocked with BACARDI® Rum, which he gets as part of his monthly salary. And today he feels like enjoying something a little different. In a moment of inspiration our hero takes some BACARDI® Rum and mixes it with fresh lime juice, sugar and ice. He then takes a sip of the world’s first Daiquirí and smiles. The rest, as they say, is cocktail history…

BACARDI Cocktail

It may surprise you to know that not all bartenders play by the rules. Very occasionally you might come across one who, lured over to the dark side of cocktail mixology, will deviously use a lesser rum in your BACARDI® Cocktail. In the 1930s, this shady practice was discovered at New York’s Barbizon-Plaza Hotel. The hotel was brought to trial in 1936, and the court ruled that “… a BACARDI® Cocktail must be made with BACARDI® rum”. So here you have it: the only cocktail recipe in the world that’s protected by law.

Ingredients:

  • 2 parts BACARDI Superior Rum
  • 2/3 part lime juice
  • 1/4 part Pomegranate grenadine (ideally Monin)
  • Preserved cherry (optional)
  • A few cubes of ice
  • Small scoop of crushed ice
  • Shaker
  • Cocktail glass
  • Hawthorne strainer
  • Fine Strainer
  • Cocktail shaker

Preparation:
Step 1. Put all the ingredients into a shaker.
Step 2. Add 1/2 cubed ice and 1/2 crushed ice.
Step 3. Shake that thing Tom Cruise style until it feels frozen.
Step 4. Double strain into a chilled or frozen cocktail glass.
Step 5. Garnish with a preserved cherry. Lookin’ good!
