Posted September 11, 2012 by Chilled in

It’’s Oktoberfest time and during the months of September and October consumers have the opportunity to take part in the creation of a new beer tap handle by entering a contest sponsored by German beer giant Hacker-Pschorr and the chance to win BEER FOR A YEAR!

Hacker-Pschorr is asking consumers to submit ideas and sketches for a new Weisse beer tap handle. A panel of Hacker-Pschorr judges from Munich and the U.S. will select the winning idea, which may be integrated into the final tap handle design. Participants can enter ideas at Facebook.com/HackerPschorrUSA. The drawing will take place in early November. The winner receives BEER FOR A YEAR from Hacker-Pschorr.

Please note: no cash payout, void where prohibited, must be 21 years or older, legal residents of the United States.

To celebrate Oktoberfest in 2012, Hacker-Pschorr developed a new Original Oktoberfest beer tap handle representing Hacker-Pschorr’s traditional beer maid image. The image was inspired by U.S. model Nicole Bailey from Denver. The new 2012 Original Oktoberfest tap handles are making their debut upscale bars and restaurants nationwide.

While millions toast Oktoberfest as a celebration of beer, few realize its origin actually honors a celebration of love and marriage. In fact, now the world’s largest festival, Oktoberfest grew from a wedding party for Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese, held in October 1810 in Munich. Prince Ludwig commissioned Josef Pschorr, then the brewmaster of the Hacker-Pschorr brewery, among other Munich brewers, to develop special brews to commemorate the occasion. The beer was so good that the party lasted for days and Oktoberfest beer was born. The rest is history.

Today, Hacker-Pschorr is one of only six breweries in Munich that brews and serves beer at Oktoberfest, along with its sister brand, Paulaner. More than six million people continue to celebrate on the land donated by Mr. Pschorr and Hacker-Pschorr Original Oktoberfest beer is the original from Munich and similar to the brew that was served at the very first Oktoberfest in 1810.

Paulaner HP USA, purveyor of the world’s finest beers, is headquartered in Littleton, Colo., and imports Paulaner, Hacker-Pschorr, Fuller’s, O’Hara’s Irish Stout, Fruli, Birra Dolomiti and Dixie beers, Vigna Dogarina, Cavallina and Dr. Peter Pootinger Riesling wines, and Fuchen herbal liqueur. This list of fine imports is now available throughout the United States at upscale, on-premise establishments.
